Here’s Why You’re Failing…

Some people seem to draw success like magnets, while others seem to often falter. I often wondered why?

Is it because successful people are smarter or have better support systems? I don’t think so. I think it has more to do with the conversations that go in our heads.

As I look back over my life, I realize it wasn’t the roar of other people’s voices & opinions that held me back. It was the silent whispers of my negative ‘self-talk’ that hindered my progress the most.

Have you ever heard the saying that often we are our own worst enemy?

Sometimes it seems that way. Others give us a compliment and we wave it away. Others celebrate our great achievement and we downplay it. Others believe we are awesome and we are amazed at their assessment.

Why do we often seem to be the first to criticize, but the last to think well of ourselves? Why? Because we often aren’t taught how to control the many thoughts that run through our minds on any given day.

It is said that our internal dialogue – the conversation we have with ourselves – is at a rate of 1,300 words per minute. Can you imagine the destructive thoughts that can run through your mind if you don’t begin to assume your role as gatekeeper?

If you want to see your success rate turnaround, you’ll need to change your inner conversation. You must agree with and only speak what God’s Word says about you.

You must rehearse the Word that says you are fearfully and wonderfully made. Your attitude and response must be, “God, if You say I’m wonderful. I agree.”

When you make it a daily habit to rehearse God’s Word about you, it will change how you feel about yourself and your abilities. And those thoughts will change the trajectory of your success. You’ll BE successful because you finally believe.

  1. Amen! It is definitely a 24/7, 365 day job to constantly draw your thoughts back to positivity… but boy oh boy the difference it will make in your life!

    • Absolutely Summmer. The benefits, peace of mind and courage, far outweigh any work involved.

  2. Thanks for sharing this post, Cheryl! Just recently, what was coming to my mind was “messed up,” but the Holy Spirit reminded me not to say that to myself! Your post just confirms that! God bless you!

    • You’re quite welcome Mich! We’re all here to help and encourage one another along in our journey! Glad you enjoyed the post. Please feel free to share it with others you think it will bless as well.

  3. Limiting self-beliefs, negative self-talk, destructive thoughts–none of these mindsets comes from God; that’s the enemy sneaking in. Psalm 139 is a great reminder of just how much God loves each one of us and it describes what he thinks of us in such great detail. Great post Cheryl.

    • Thanks Kim. Sometimes our minds overtalk us and we fall into limiting self-belief and negative self-talk. We all need little reminders that God sees us as beautiful. =)

  4. SO true…I have always known this but never really put it into practice…it is vital to see ourselves as God sees us…as loved…that changes everything! Thanks for this reminder!

    • Cindy, sometimes when we’re going through struggles it’s easy for us to forget. We all need to be reminded who God says we are. Thanks for stopping by and blessing us with your presence!

  5. Thanks for this…I’m really my own worst critic but I’m working on it!

    • Glad it blessed you Ansonia. We’ve gotta kill that negative self talk!
