3 Ways to Stop Being a Fool

I know…fool is a harsh word for most. No one wants to be thought of nor classified as a fool. But I must say that I’ve done some foolish things in my life.

As I reflect over my life, I wonder what was I thinking?

Truthfully, I really wasn’t thinking. I was allowing other people to do the thinking for me. I was such a people pleaser that I let them decide where I should go to college, what type of job was best for me and where I should live.

But you know what? I didn’t like where THEIR thoughts were taking me. Can you relate?

So one day I decided to do it my way. I reclaimed my life and my mind, and yes it’s brilliant just like yours. I decided I’d take over the job of steering my life since I was the one who had to live it.

I’ve included three foolish things I USED to do but had to stop so I could live a life I loved. Hopefully it will be a guide for you too.

1. Stop allowing the opinions of others to hinder you from becoming who God created you to be.

So people think  you should be a doctor, but God gifted you with the ability and burning desire to act. It’s your life. Do what you love.

2. Stop living to please other people.

You can either live your life to satisfy others, or you can choose to live it to please God and YOU. You’re the only one that has to live with your decisions, make sure they suit the lifestyle you want to create.

3. Stop hiding in the crowd.

Come out, come out wherever you are. You are too brilliant to hide in the shadows. The Bible says we are fearfully and wonderfully made. Decide to believe it and allow the world the distinct privilege and honor of seeing the wonderful person God created you to be.

  1. As a People Pleaser I still struggle with this! Even when I think I am not going to let others opinions affect me, I find myself making decisions based on what others think. The only way I avoid this is to stop and pray before making decisions. I need to take the time to check with God before I say Yes to others! Thank you for letting me give myself a big ‘ol kick in the pants – apparently I needed it:)

    • Thanks for sharing Cindy. I think we all have suffered with it at some time or another. I’m glad you found a way to address the issue. There’s nothing that frees us more than being able to live according to God’s will and our heart’s desire without allowing the noise of other’s opinion to override it. Happy for you!

  2. Nothing like some real alone time with God having Him tell you of your worth. From that position we can enter the world boldly and confidently.

    • Absolutely Kinsey! NOthing like affirmation and confirmation from our heavenly Father!

  3. You’re welcome Cheryl. It’s time for ALL of us to be bold! God is just amazing!

  4. Too many things to name! “Coincidentally” (NOT) God led me to scriptures about BOLDNESS this very morning!! Thanks for your great reminders!

  5. Ok I’m going to stop the foolishness of hiding in the shadows – you called me out on that one, thank you ma’am!

    • That’s right Ansonia. No more hiding!!! People are dying waiting on you to unleash the gift of God in YOU!
